Ralph’s 30 years of volunteering
A huge thank you and congratulations to Ralph Harding for an impressive 30 years of unbroken voluntary service. And at 90 years of age he has no plans to stop!
Ralph has turned his hand to many roles over the last three decades. He started his voluntary work in 1991 at Devizes Community Hospital helping with medical records, gardening and minibus driving which he did until he was 74 years old. Ralph then concentrated on the hospital gardens sowing seed trays and preparing them for planting at Devizes and Melksham Community Hospitals. Ralph also carried out Father Christmas duties for the patients on the ward at Devizes Community Hospital and helped with Christmas breakfasts for the night staff going off duty. He also used his cooking skills to support occupational therapy staff with patient rehabilitation.
Ralph said: “I have some very happy memories with the staff at the hospital and made so many friends. I would to thank you all for your kindness and for looking after me.”
Suzanne Bennett, Voluntary Services Coordinator for Wiltshire Health and Care said: “In the 22 years I have known Ralph, he has always amazed me with his interesting farming background and his zest for life – keeping active by playing tennis for over 60 years and playing county hockey for Wiltshire for almost 14 years.”
Ralph continues to help with filing tasks at Devizes Community Hospital and he has no plans to stop as he likes to keep busy.
Thank you Ralph for all that you do to support our patients and staff and for being such a valued member of the team.
