New Managing Director for WHC

Shirley-Ann Carvill has taken up the position of Managing Director of Wiltshire Health and Care.

With more than 24 years substantive NHS experience coupled with over 8 years supporting NHS & social care organisations as an independent consultant, Shirley-Ann brings with her a wealth of experience. In tandem she was also invited as a client partner for a niche consultancy in their start-up phase.

Shirley-Ann said: "I am delighted and privileged to have taken up the post of Managing Director at Wiltshire Health and Care. I aim to provide strong, visible and visionary leadership and to build supportive relationships that enable an inclusive environment where all feel valued, and have an opportunity to shape the future provision of excellent services for the communities we serve.

"I continue to be passionate and proud to be part of the NHS and strive to live the values of compassion and respect for all. I believe every day counts and should make a positive difference."

Shirley-Ann began her NHS career as a Management Trainee and was appointed Hospital Manager at 20 years - opening a new acute psychiatric hospital in Glasgow. Her NHS career has spanned both operational and strategic roles at local and regional levels, working in partnership with a range of health and care professionals to deliver high quality services and build new visions. For some years now Shirley-Ann has been supporting systems and acute trusts individually to develop and deliver Transformation and Integrated Care Strategies linked to quality improvement, effective utilisation of resources, reducing health inequalities and enabling future sustainability focused on a preventative approach and out of hospital care.

Shirley-Ann holds an MBA from the University of Edinburgh and based on practical experience, published a book in 2000, the first in the HSJ Academy series 'A Guide to the Reprovision of Services.'

Our previous Managing Director Douglas Blair leaves with our best wishes as he takes up the post of Chief Executive Officer for Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.
