WHC to provide new community heart failure and cardiology service across Wiltshire

Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BSW CCG) has awarded Wiltshire Health and Care (WHC) the contract to provide the new community heart failure and cardiology service across Wiltshire.

The new service will both increase the number of patients in Wiltshire supported in the community by cardiology services but also ensure that, for the first time, these services are provided equitably across Wiltshire.

This new service will provide community-based support and rehabilitation for people living with heart failure, alongside diagnostic tests and specialist cardiology advice and guidance to support primary care patient management. WHC will deliver an integrated service, with a partnership of community services, primary care and secondary care colleagues.

Douglas Blair, Managing Director of Wiltshire Health and Care said: “I’m delighted that we were chosen to provide this new comprehensive service across the county, which will be a great example of partnership working. We will be actively recruiting specialist nurses and others to join our team very soon to be part of this exciting development.”

Dr Ruth Grabham, Medical Director for BSW CCG said “We are pleased to be working with Wiltshire Health and Care on the provision of this important service which will see wider access to high quality heart failure and cardiology services for people living in Wiltshire. Patients will benefit from being able to access care closer to their homes and have faster access to diagnostics, tests and treatment advice.”

WHC is working closely with commissioners at BSW CCG to plan the mobilisation of the new contract alongside existing services, recognising both the current operational pressures and the need to avoid gaps in existing heart failure and cardiology services.
